1.SCOPE
1.1
This standard applies to sealed insulating glass units
for use in windows, doors and curtain walls in building
envelope and to the testing of samples for the integrity
and durability of the units hermetic seal only.
1.2
The requirements contained herein are applicable to
glazing units composed of two or three sheets of glass
and glazed in recessed openings so that the edge
seals are shielded from direct weathering.
1.3
The following types of applications have not been
considered in the preparation of this standard.
a. Testing of insulating glass units for structural
adhesive glazing where the unit edges are exposed.
While insulating glass units for these applications
should be tested for seal durability to this standard,
separate specifications, standards and testing are
required to ensure the integrity of the seals and
adhesive bonds when directly exposed to solar
radiation and weathering.
b. Testing of permanently vented or "Capillary Tube
units."
c. Testing of units containing grills, blinds, or any
other inserts.
